New Meaning "I Love Lucy"

In the USA Today Life section snapshot this morning, the feature was most popular cat and dog names of 2008. What I learned from that little graphic was that nowadays, the phrase "I love Lucy" refers to more than just a 1950s comedy series.

The name Lucy ranks fifth for dogs (496) and first for cats (354) in the Petfinder.com survey of the names of more than 145,000 adoptable dogs and more than 140,000 adoptable cats.

Lucy is the English form of Lucia, in use since the Middle Ages. which is the feminine form of Lucius. Lucia was a 4th-century martyr from Syracuse who was said to have had her eyes gouged out. She is the patron saint of the blind.

Wonder if any guide dogs are named Lucy?
